What is Crafts for Community?
Crafts for Community is an organization designed to engage and connect the community. We teach students through senior citizens how to knit hats, which are then donated to babies in the NICU.
These hats will help these babies, as Hats are a must in the NICU, even for very small or very sick preemies. Covering the head helps babies stay warm, and preemie hats are an easy knitting or crocheting project. Alongside each hat will come with a letter to send hope and love to the family as they navigate difficult circumstances.

Hailey
Hailey is a Junior in High school passionate about helping those who are sick or in need. In sixth grade Hailey’s middle school teacher taught her how to make hats and encouraged the students to participate in order to give them to NICU babies. A few years later as Hailey’s mom became very sick from MPN blood cancer she taught her mom how to make the hats to help her pass time. Within a week her mom made 40 hats. Both Hailey and her brother were very ill and spent time in the NICU at Sanford Hospital and received baby hats. Her mother also receives weekly treatments and care from Stanford and is able to thrive due to their help.
Crafts for Community allows Hailey to give back to those who have helped herself and her family as well as teach others how they can use their kindness to help the community.
